So today’s kind of we’re gonna be all over the place. I’m drawing Zenitsu, but I’m going to be talking about the summer Hikaru died. Um because that was our anime club of the month. Um but feel free like I’m sure we’ll go on tangents and stuff. So if even if you didn’t watch it, like no worries. We’ll probably end up yapping about other stuff, but um for anyone that has watched it, I even made like a list of like all the stuff I want to talk about. So, first I’ll just go over my like scoring card. I’ll like properly do it on my like Google Slides later. But story, it’s still not done because it’s just the first season. But I give it a nine. Like I can’t I don’t have any complaints. Animation 10. No complaints. Soundtrack 10. It’s just like godly. especially episode I want to say like it’s six or seven where it ends with like the choir song and it’s just like Hikaru and Yoshi’s duet duetting the the choir song together and it’s like oh my god it’s just so well done. I haven’t watched something like this like well thought out in a while. So it’s like 10 10 out of 10 tens across the board. Jujiito toxic. Oh my gosh. Hi, Sophia. Hello. Welcome to anime club. Historians would call them bros. Homies, even homies. Only Demon Slayer character I liked had a gun. Oh, GA. I drew him as well. He’s cool, too. He is very smart for being the one character to have a gun. [Music] Really couldn’t get into the series at all. It’s It’s understandable. Like I wasn’t that into it either until probably after Entertainment District arc is when I like really really started enjoying it a lot. Like I agree first season is kind of like eh until you get to like the characters that are actually cool. No offense Tro. I really like Taniro too. Like Tano grows on you. His journey um like from beginning to end is just like its peak. But yeah, I can see why people fall off after like, you know, first season. And then some of the like uh swordsmith arc is not that like compelling compared to other stuff too. So, hello airplane. That was really loud. Anyways, hi. Welcome. You like Tandro? Also, hi Senko. I love Tandro. I just think like um the beginning of the season, the beginning of the story. Sorry, we’ll talk about Hikaru in a bit, but I’m being sidetracked because I’m drawing Demon Slayer right now. But Tano in the beginning is kind of very like not boring, but just like not like anything that innovative. It’s just like your your run-of-the-mill shownen. Like, I’m gonna protect my sister and I’m gonna like power up and like do all this stuff. But I think like you get to like him even more as the series progresses because he like never gives up and he like I mean that’s pretty like predictable shownen too. But I I just like I like that aspect of his character. like he he consistently fails at stuff but like will um keep working keep working hard and like the the the um bar the hurdle keeps like rising and rising but he like keeps like trying but yeah happy Halloween love story smith because I have my favorite character Muiro but yes it is very shownen Um, looks awesome so far. So, outside of some shownen, it’s hard to get me invested. Only recent one that really got me invested was Gachiaka. Me, too. Oh my god. I will I will talk about Gachiaka, but let me Well, we we’ll bring it back to Hikaru because that’s like the main topic. I’m such a freaking nerd. I can’t like stop myself. Um but yeah, have to go in like half an hour. No worries. No worries. We’ll talk about we’ll we’ll we’re bringing it back. Hikaru. Um Hikaru is one I watched with friends. I adored it. Very tragic romance core. Yes. Okay. So, what I really like about Hikaru is that it’s it’s kind of like two stories like in one. Like you have the horror aspect and the mystery solving with um you know like who is Hikaru like who the monster Hikaru like trying to figure out who Nuku nonukisama is and um you know the whole like village lore and stuff like that. Um, and on the other hand, you also have the romance aspect, the LGBTQ of it all, um, with Yoshiki and Hikaratu’s relationship and just Yoshki’s mental state and like psychology. I feel like the the series explores it in like a really really interesting way through like the lens of like horror, body horror, and kind of like a philosoph philosophical way too of like is the person you like still the person if they have like a you know if they’re being if they’re possessed is it is it worth just like keeping normaly and pretending everything’s the same. Watch with my friends. Honestly was surprised how scary Hikatu is. Like the slice of life bits and the eerie silence after some lines. Yoshki’s on the brink of breakdown the whole series. Yeah. And especially like midway when he gets to that point where like that episode where um he takes he skips school with Hikaru. like, oh my god, that whole episode gave me gave me chills cuz I thought I didn’t know he was going to like um try to like kill Hikaru. I thought he was going to like super slide and I was just like so like scared that whole episode. Yeah. On the edge of my seat. I was just like this is crazy. But then it’s so interesting how their whole relationship kind of like shifts after that where he’s like he kind of like accepts like okay this isn’t Hikaru but it’s a Hikaru so is it it’s better to live life with like you know to just like proceed with this than like not have him at all and then he kind of like acknowledges that it’s not him anymore and then builds like a new relationship which I think is like kind of beautiful that I was going to as well or like give himself up to Hikaru. Yeah, cuz he was like he was setting everything up like um so that people would not know where he was and like the the choir show and everything. I was just like, “Oh my god.” The whole atmosphere of that episode was just so unsettling. Um sorry, let me move my phone. I’m live on Irum, too. Sorry, I’m reading two chats today. Um, what was your thoughts on the conclusion? Thought the creature would want to be nice friends, but then that didn’t happen. Well, um, it kind of he does kind of want to be friends. Maybe more than friends. Um, the end I thought it was it’s very interesting because like I’m trying to like figure out how to word this cuz Hikaru in some ways it feels like Hikaru like the nonukis sama Hikaru is like learning how to become human like he wants he wants to protect Yoshiki so he’s like okay I’m going to go back to the mountains and like sacrifice my happiness for the sake of your happiness. But like contrasting that is Yoshki who [Music] is like he consider he considers himself a monster because he’s like he’s he wants the selfish route of like well no I don’t want you to leave like what happened to like solving the mystery and like don’t leave me alone by myself like he I just think it’s it’s very interesting like juxtaposition of two different like personalities like or like p character developments in a way isn’t friends uh with benefits. This is dating with detriments. That’s so true. A line between the love that Yoshki had with Karu may have not been reciprocated versus the attachment that Yoshiki and Hikaru have and how much Yoshiki has become a monster himself. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That’s so interesting. And just the whole thing of Yoshki like thinking that he’s a monster, like his whole mental state is just like really really fascinating. So I think like the way they the way they like visually portray it and everything too is just like so well done. Like I don’t know how to I don’t know how to describe it, but like yeah, makes me think of another new LGBTQ romance series I saw. This monster wants to eat me, where a mermaid in exchange for giving the girl a normal life gets to be the one to eat her in the end. Wait, what? Wait, that sounds interesting. Wait, I want to read that. That sounds really This monster wants to eat me. I love stuff like that. Small thing, but I don’t think Hikaru exactly loved him simply due to him not really understanding the very concept of love. Yeah. Yeah, I agree. And kind of the same way with like Denji from Chainsaw Man where he’s like he’s just like a he’s a baby. He doesn’t understand society or like emotions or anything. So he thinks that like any any emotion he’s latching on to, he’s like, “Oh, that must be love.” It’s like it’s actually kind of interesting watching all of this stuff like back to back with like Chainsaw Man and Summeru died and the way they’re both like exploring kind of like psychology in a way. Love the end with the agency guy. I thought he was going to kword Hikaru in that moment, but he just watched them crash out together. Yeah, I really want to know what’s up with him. The hamster guy. Like I I still I haven’t read the manga so I don’t know anything that happens after this. But like I’m really curious what his deal is. Like what does he what does he want? I thought he was going to Kword him too. Monster is like just figuring out how to be human. Never thought about Denji being similar but he is for sure. Yeah. Yeah he is. He they are similar in certain ways because like I mean Denji has like pocha inside him. Denji is still himself, but like Hikaru, he’s like trying to figure out who he who he is while retaining like Hikaru’s memory. So, it’s like how much of who he is is Hikaru’s memories versus who Nukis sama is. And that’s kind of like an interesting conflict, too. Hi, Mela. Welcome. Hi, Alec. Hello. Hello. Cute model. But yeah, we’re yapping about the summer Hikaratu died. I’m like I’m drawing Zenitu from Demon Slayer while talking about the summer Hikaru died. And um yeah, we’re my brain’s like all over the place. Why was it the scariest anime ever? I mean, it is a horror anime. I think too like the horror aspects of it. Oh, this is the wrong color. Whatever. That works. Can blend. I just think like craftwise it is also just one of the like better animated shows I’ve seen recently because of the way that they um I love when they do like kind of like the mixed media approach like that scene where Yoshki like reaches in his hand into Hikaru’s chest and he’s like uh it feels like raw chicken and then they just like show like a photo of real life like raw marinated chicken. I’m like ew. Or at the end when he’s like um like in his mind or whatever and then they like they show Yoshi’s face but then his lips are like real life lips. It’s so freaky. But like I love I love stuff like that. It’s so gross. Not sure if in Hikatu’s case is them being immature and more so that they are an entirely different being. Yeah. Yeah. I mean that’s that’s like part of it is like he’s he’s just trying to figure out his identity. He doesn’t even he doesn’t remember anything. He doesn’t know who he is. So he so all he has to go off of is like Hikaru’s memories and whatever Yoshiki teaches him, which is another interesting aspect because it’s like how much does Hikatu actually like him like for real versus Yoshiki kind of like kind of like gaslighting him or like manipulating him a little bit to be like, “Yeah, this is just how we are. Oh, also Yoshki’s voice actor, um, this is complete different tangent, but his voice actor, uh, Chiaki Kobayashi, I think is his name, is also the guy that, um, voice acts Longa and Skate the Infinity. And I’m a huge fan of him. So I really really like his voice especially in this context where he has like the the accent. I think it’s like concai accent or something and then like I get to hear him like freaking out a lot. I’m like this is good. This is great content. Yeah, Livia is so good for this show. I love it. Yoshi probably uh Yoshiki probably isn’t the best person to teach. Yeah, I agree. Kai accent is so cute. Made me really love Hikaru a lot. Yeah. Oh my god, I love Kai accent. I um I studied abroad in Japan when I was in college and in Kyoto. And like my homeay family all had like Kai accents and like my host mom um gave me this book about like um uh Kai dialect and everything. So I like have a special attachment to that kind to that language a little bit. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He’s Mash from Mashel. I want to try doing something like that sometime. Want to get back into manga? I read so many Serial Maha and uh Royal Royal Road prepub novels. I will never be caught up. I haven’t I never uh yeah like same I also haven’t really read manga that much until recently where I watch read Gachiaka because the anime uh ended on a cliffhanger and I was like I need to immediately know what happens or I can’t sleep. Wasn’t that bad? I’ve seen worse. Uh is that why anime like Demon Slayer looks so real? Uh, Demon Slayer doesn’t use like real life pictures or anything. I’m sure they like rotoscope some stuff, but like that’s not the same thing. Ayana animates herself in front of a real life Trader Joe’s. I did make a Trader Joe’s vlog one time. There was like a Donathon goal for anyone that like wasn’t there when that was a thing. There’s a video on my channel where I show you guys Trader Joe’s. So like if I want to know what happens and I’ll like and the style for Gatyaka is just so good that I like I really respect the like original you know medium for it. But yeah, admittedly I don’t read a lot of manga just like off a rip. Yeah, it’s fine. I don’t really care. I did I did look at your list though. It does I would try reading some of them. Unfortunately, I am not much of an isseekai enjoyer. Um, so that’s a thing, too. But there’s certain there’s certain isekai that I think if it’s done well, like I like it. What about American animation or European animation? I love all animation. I was talking about this the other day, but whenever that new Leica movie comes out, I’m going to be whether it’s good or bad, I’m going to shill it really hard because I really need Leica to not die. I really need stop motion to not be a lost craft. Didn’t realize there’s a season 2 for Hikaru, so I was so confused and I didn’t solve any of the plot threads. Yeah. Yeah, I mentioned that. Um I did I did point it out, but maybe you weren’t there during the stream when I was like talking about it. But yeah, I also didn’t know and then I finished it two weeks ago. I was like, “Oh, well, I’m glad there’s more though.” I am actually glad because it didn’t feel like they were going to be able to like solve things within that like short amount of time. But yeah, Australian animation. One of my friends worked at um Flying Bark Studios. That’s a that’s a animation studio based in Australia. But yeah, also included Nani just in case you didn’t like it. I will check it out. I will try to check some stuff out. Uh, watch my two good and five bad romance series every season and move on. If you want romance, I can cover you, but I melt trying to keep up with shownen and fantasy as I’d like. Yeah, I don’t know. I don’t really watch that much or read that much romance stuff. I don’t know. I like it. I like it when there’s other when there’s like um a different genre that just happens to have romance. But I think for me if it’s just like if it’s like [Music] high school romance, well I think the last one I like got really invested in was like Kimi took. That might be the only like pure shojo that I’ve really liked because normally it’s like stuff that’s like romantic, but it’s also has other stuff in it. Like with the summer Hikaratu died where it’s like not really a romance even though there’s like romantic subtext. Weren’t they the studio that made What If? Yeah, they were. Oh, yeah. I did watch some of uh Shosian. I need to keep watching it cuz I really um I do like uh stuff like that. Like Hi is one of my favorite like Kyani series. So Sho Min is like very similar to that. Um it is just a bit more of a slow watch though. So I I like really have to like sit down and like pay attention to like get through it versus like um faster paced shownen stuff. It’s kind of like I feel like I don’t have to pay attention to the dialogue as much and I can like multitask. But yeah. Isn’t Hikaru manga still ongoing? I think I think it is. I think I haven’t read it. But yeah, I think I think it is. I like them. I think they’re talented and nice. Yeah. What my top three of all them? Same author as Hyoka. Yeah. Yeah. That’s why I um checked it out. Shoim Min also has really good animation. They they also do that thing with the is it the opening or ending song? Like I I think the way they like visualize stuff in Hoka is just like so cool. Do you have the sword shoes and hair? No, I’m just wearing like a black long sleeve shirt underneath it. I might do another like hair dyeing stream cuz I um my roots I haven’t done it since the last time I streamed it which was probably like three plus months ago already or maybe even longer. I don’t even know. But uh yeah, my roots are like completely grown out now. It looks so bad. Chosimi is a you need to pay attention show. Same as 2 Hero X. I’ve been meaning to watch that one as well. There’s just there’s so much good anime out. I feel so inspired though. Like I I I’m sure you guys have noticed, but like this month I’ve just been like I’ve been drawing so much stuff. I like finally feel like drawing fan art again. I just feel like I don’t know there’s just like so much good things and like like easy to visualize things too. Like I can imagine a lot of scenes of like I want to draw fan art of that scene or stuff like that. Like I haven’t felt that way in a in a while. [Music] Fun fact, I have gu like a figure or like what do you mean? What do you mean you have you? Uh, yeah. I’ve seen I’ve seen um I always forget how you’re supposed to say the title. It’s not supposed to be XXX Holic. There’s like you’re supposed to just say like Holic or something. But yeah. Um, I think the anime though for um, Triple Xolic is what I always say in my head is uh, I like the manga more cuz the anime I feel like they do the they do the clamp noodle arms and legs like a little bit too far. Like it does look there it is very exaggerated. is like a little bit like uh off model compared to the manga. SP trying to watch a new anime series every day. That’s so much that’s so much anime. But yeah. Yeah, I like the art style because it’s clamp, right? I love clamp. Um you have to watch to be Hero X if you’re an animation fan. Over 100 animation studios took part in animating. I know. I remember seeing the trailer for it and I got so excited because it looked so sick. But I don’t know. I don’t know why I haven’t uh started it. Maybe I’ll watch it um while I’m waiting for the next Gachiaka episode. I think it comes out tomorrow, right? Does Gachiaka come out on Saturdays? Most of the time like it’s kind of I feel like other horror anime are a little more like straightforward or just like unsettling or like jump scary type things. Yeah. Is very unique like they don’t really have like and like there is like the slice of life element in this show too with like the the side characters and like the school life and stuff like that.
