Yeah, practical effects will always win out, there is just something about having a physical, tactile presence to an effect that increases audience buy-in.
The episode starts @ 24:26. Also, System 7 (Mac OS 7) came out on May 13, 1991, and this episode first aired June 22, 1991 so the OS had been out for over a month by the time the joke about it taking forever to come out aired. Lol.
